ALTG awarded $12 million in funding

The ALTG is pleased to announce over $12 million in funding has been successfully awarded to ALTG, NHMRC Clinical Trial Centre and the Australian Genomic Cancer Medicine Centre for the ASPiRATION project. In this ground-breaking precision medicine study, led by ALTG President A/Prof Nick Pavlakis and ALTG Scientific Advisory Committee Chair, Prof Ben Solomon, ASPiRATION will explore the benefit of routine comprehensive genomic profiling in 1000 newly-diagnosed metastatic, non-squamous, NSCLC patients in Australia. The enhanced genomic profiling will assist in personalising patient care by matching patients to targeted treatments as early as possible to improve patient outcomes.

Update on the international lung trials group

ALTG has continued its leadership role in establishing a global lung cancer trials group to further international research efforts in thoracic cancer. Importantly, the group’s name has been agreed upon – the Thoracic Alliance for Cancer Trials (TACT) – and the upcoming WCLC 2016 is a key milestone in the group’s progress.

ALTG is leading the establishment of an international lung cancer trials group following the decision at last year’s ASCO meeting to move ahead with this exciting initiative. We have established a steering committee that is working on setting up key elements of the group’s structure, governance and operations, as well as discussing a potential first trial.

The group is known as the Thoracic Alliance for Cancer Trials (TACT) – and we expect within the next six months to be in a position to invite membership applications from interested national and trans-national groups. The steering committee will host a further face-to-face meeting for leaders of national and trans-national groups during WCLC 2015 in Denver, Colorado.
