ALTG 13/008 PEARL: Investigating the impact of early palliative care – L Mileshkin, J Yoong
PEARL is a non-blinded, randomised Phase III study of early referral to palliative care for patients with advanced thoracic cancer. This multicentre, international trial is a collaboration between the ALTG, Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative and NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre. The study received ethics approval in October 2016 with a plan to recruit 200 patients across 25 sites in Australia and New Zealand over a 2 year period, starting in Q1 2017.
The study will evaluate whether early referral to palliative care improves Health-Related Quality of Life, overall survival and use of health care resources in patients with recently diagnosed, advanced thoracic malignancies.
